Christmas
I’m only taking a short time off over the Christmas break this time (last Friday through to next Wednesday) since I will need all the time off I can get for the honeymoon. Christmas day was pleasant, fortunately we did Cushla’s father the week beforehand (he was off to Auckland for the duration) and my family all grouped together in one place, that just left Cushla’s mother who we had around for dinner. I was quite pleased that my presents seemed to be well received. I haven’t been too excited by presents this year, although this is nothing to do with the presents I received, but rather a general dissillusionment with the entire festive process. Although I can at least say that I now own Knuth’s Art of Computer Programming series (the published bits at least).
Post-Christmas
The weather finally became good enough on Boxing Day to have a go at the windows. Painting the window frames has been this summer’s Big Project. Until now we haven’t had good enough weather. Boxing Day didn’t go too well, we decided we needed more power tools and we mounted an expedition to the hardware store. Monday Tuesday and Wednesday were spent stripping old paint. We now have one window ready to be painted and three more nearly there (although I’m going to have to un-jam the sash windows). Unfortunately it has started raining again. It is meant to be summer damn-it !
At least we had Australia between us and the Tsunamis. There are many people out there with bigger problems that rain.
Post-Post-Christmas
Since it is raining I have had a chance to do more GNOME work. Mostly on the Same-GNOME rewrite. The CVS version now has working undo/redo and full screen mode. The Scores and Theme dialogs aren’t written yet and the help is still for the old version, but I am pretty certain there won’t be any feature regressions by the time the feature freeze comes around.
